Under the Banyan Tree
Free monthly movie screenings at the National Museum of Singapore. Visitors can catch beloved timeless Hollywood classics and musicals with their family and friends in a beautiful open-air setting.
Young Cinema
The National Museum of Singapore is the only museum focusing specifically on film for younger audiences. Young Cinema presents thought-provoking stories from a carefully selected collection of Singaporean and international short films made specifically for children from age 4 to 12.
Education and Community Programmes
Art-On-Site
Ongoing throughout the year, artists are invited to exploit the site specific qualities of the museum’s public spaces to create provocative and original work that alters visitor perceptions of the museum environment.
Open Houses
The National Museum of Singapore holds Open House Festivals to celebrate key Public Holidays and International Museum Day. The museum uses these Open Houses to celebrate the rich diversity of Singaporean society and promote racial harmony.
Museum Toddlers
A first in Singapore, this programme provides a play-based learning experience for children aged 18 to 36 months. Museum Toddlers promotes learning through stimulating children’s natural curiosity, creativity and imagination.
Out of the Box! Puppets and Legends Series
Children delight in this fun and hands-on workshop, which uses artefacts from the National Museum’s handling collection to introduce young visitors to traditions and stories that formed part of our shared culture in Singapore.
Samsui Women - Laying the Bricks
Students follow the life of a Samsui woman as she tells us about her working and living conditions and the significance of her red headgear. Using an artful combination of role-play and historical slide-show, this workshop aims to educate students about migrant workers in Singapore.
Archaeology in Singapore
In this half-day programme, students are introduced to the rich and diverse world of archaeology. The programme encourages students to exercise their analytical skills. It constitutes of a slide presentation, tour of the Temasek Gallery and tour of Fort Canning excavation site. Students will get to experience field activities such as archaeological surface survey and laboratory processing.
